Somnium, previously called Personal Signals, is Curtis Steckel’s experimental personal knowledge system. It connects authorized sources, organizes observations and relationships into linked Markdown notes, and uses reflection to help prepare daily briefs and useful follow-up questions.

Google integrations read email and calendar events with the account owner’s permission. Optional local inputs include messages, contacts, and tasks. The application and its knowledge store run on privately managed infrastructure—not on this public website.

This is a personal-use prototype, not a public sign-up service. This page explains the project and its data practices; it does not provide access to accounts, private notes, or the homelab.

What the application accesses

With your explicit Google authorization, Somnium uses read-only Gmail and Google Calendar access to retrieve email content and metadata and calendar information, including event descriptions, times, and participants. These permissions do not allow Somnium to send email or change your calendar. Access is limited to accounts you connect.

If enabled separately, local collectors can also import messages, contact details, and task activity under the operating system permissions you grant. Notes and answers you provide become additional inputs.

How information is used

Imported data is used to maintain a personal knowledge database, connect related people and events, synthesize observations, and prepare briefs, reminders, and questions for the authorized user. Source records are cached on privately managed infrastructure alongside derived notes and operational metadata. OAuth credentials are stored to allow ongoing authorized collection.

Processing and service providers

Reflection and summarization can send selected source content and existing notes to the OpenAI API for model processing. Local models may also be used. When Obsidian Sync is enabled, exported notes are synchronized through that service. These providers process the information under their applicable terms; the system is not entirely offline. Somnium does not sell Google user data or use it for advertising or to train generalized AI models.

Somnium’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Retention, revocation, and deletion

Imported records, derived notes, and backups can remain until deleted by the operator; there is no automatic promise of deletion after the import lookback window. You can revoke Google access at Google Account connections. Revocation stops future authorized access but does not erase previously imported data. Contact Curtis to request deletion of cached records, derived notes, credentials, and configured synchronized copies; backup copies may require separate removal.

This website

This public page has no account login, forms, analytics scripts, advertising, or application data. Cloudflare hosts its static files and may process ordinary request information, such as IP addresses and access logs, to deliver and secure the website. The Moon image is served from this site rather than a third-party image host.

Somnium is an experimental personal-use application operated by Curtis Steckel. Use is limited to the operator and explicitly authorized users. Connect only accounts and information you are entitled to access, and respect the privacy of people represented in your data.

Generated observations and briefs may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. Review the underlying sources before relying on them. The application is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or financial advice.

The prototype can change, lose data, or become unavailable. Keep independent copies of important information. You can stop using it and revoke connected-account access at any time; deletion requests are handled as described in the privacy policy.
